How to use warm/hot water with a washing machine in Japan

Most washing machines back in Europe have the ability to wash clothes with warm water.
In japan most of them, don’t.

So what if, in your apartment, share house or house, you would like to wash clothes with warm water?
I know some machines allow the use of bathtub water, but I don’t think it’s ideal.
That’s why I came with this idea: using a garden hose to get warm water into the washing machine.

How to set up:

  1. Get a hose:
    I used the this one from amazon: Amazon link;

  2. It comes with two adapters you can use to attach the hose to a sink faucet;
    Install the one that works for your faucet making sure is tight and won’t leak water;

  3. Put your clothes into the washing machine;

  4. Open the faucet for warm water;

  5. Use the hose head to pour water into the washing machine;

  6. When full, stop and start the washing machine;

  7. Close the tap of the sink;

  8. Wait for the washing to finish.

 Since the hose is long, it works well when the washing machine is far from a sink.
The downside is, you can only get warm water for the first stage of washing. The rest will be with cold water.
Also, if you have a front loading type machine, this method becomes impractical. It is only doable with a top loading WM.
In that case a second method, this time with the classic white tube you already have attached to your washing machine is a better solution, if your WM is close to your sink.

 So, how do you do it?

1)    Buy one of the hoses, depending on your preference/need; Link

2)    Install the end cap to the sink tap, making sure it doesn’t leak; I didn’t use any additional plumbering equipment, but if you want to do a better job, feel free to do so;

3)    Connect the tube to the sink;

4)    Connect it to the washing machine the other side;

5)    Open the tap, set to warm water;

6)    Start your washing machine;

7) Wait for the cycle to end;

8)    At the end of the washing cycle, close the sink tap, remove the lower end from the sink so you can use it normally again.
