Hi.

Welcome to my blog.

No topic in particular.

Leica Lenses on a SIGMA sd quattro - Camera Mod

I really like Leica lenses.

I really like Sigma’s Foveon sensor.

This is a mod I tried a little while ago, and even though I didn’t get the wanted result, I would like to share it.
Advisory: for camera lovers, it contains strong images.

Let’s go.
I really wanted to see how Leica lenses would feel, perform on a foveon sensor, so I set out to buy a second hand sigma dp quattro with an APS-C foveon sensor. You might wonder, wait!, the mount is different!
Well yes, it is. That’s why I also set out for a saw to remove the huge nose protruding from the camera.

Here some pictures of the process:

I was planning to have the front plate 3D printed with a L mount but because of lack of time and impatience to try the hybrid, I ended up using a box from a lens of mine.
I cut a round hole the dice of the L mount and put a spare bayonet inside to help me block some outside light.
Below how it looked:

Finally some test pictures I took with a Leica Summicron 40mm f2. It is a light lens, easy to hold and with manual focus and aperture.

Some test pictures with the lens:

Since I did handheld there’s a lot of tilt and shift.
To end, a comparison with the same lens on a Leica CL:

It was a bit of rough and hastily executed project, but still fun to do.
What do you think?
